Eighth Day of Navratri : Mata Maha Gauri

The eighth avatar of Goddess Durga is Maha Gauri and is worshipped on the eighth day of Navratri. Maha Gauri is as white as snow and beautiful and she is loaded white colour ornaments and mostly seen in white or green sari. She is the symbol of calmness and represents wisdom. She has 3 eyes and four hands; wherein in one hand Mata holds Trishu, in other other hand Mata holds Damru and rest two hands are in particular Mudra offering blessings to the devotees. She rides on a bull. Mata Gauri turns impossible things into possibilities. In Durga Saptsati, the Devi who conquered Shubh-Nishubh named Rakshasha and the Rishi-Muni offered prayer is Mata Maha Gauri. Devi Gauri is Lord Shiva’s wife and is also known as “Shiva” or “Shambhavi”.




Mata Maha Gauri Pujan:

There is an importance of “Gorani Jaman” for all the ten days of Navratri but it has added importance for the eighth day of Navratri. On this day, married women offers Devi “Chunri” for the long life span of their husbands. Devi Maha Gauri’s pooja is also performed as the previous days of Navratri. While offering prayer to Goddess Maha Gauri this mantra is being used,

“Siddhagandharv Yakshadyair Surairmrairapi, Sevyamana Sada Bhuyat Siddhda Siddhidayini.”

Gods and Rishi Muni prays devi by using this mantra:

“Sarvamangalya Mangaliye Shive Sarvardhe Shadhike, Sharanye Traiyambike Gauri Narayani Namostute.”

Mata Maha Gauri Mantra:

Shwete Vrushe Samrudha Shwetambaradhara Suchihi,
Mahagauri Shubham Dadayanmahdeva Promodada.

Ya Devi Sarva Bhuteshu Maa Gauri Rupen Sanshitha,
Namastasye Namastasye Namastasye Namo Namah.

Mata Maha Gauri Dhyaan:

Vande Vanchit Kamarthe Chandradhruta Shekharam,
Sniharudha Chaturbhuja Mahagauri Yashshawinim.




Purnendu Nibham Gauri Somchakrashitham Astham Mahgauri Trinetram,
Varabhitikaram Trishul Damrudharam Mahagauri Bhejem.

Patambar Paridhanam Mruduhasya Nanalankar Bhushitam,
Manjeer, Haar, Keyur Kinkini Ratnakundal Manditam.

Prafful Vandana Pallavdharam kantam Kapolam Trailokya Mohanam,
Kamaniya Lavanyam Mrunalam Chandan Gandhliptam.

Mata Maha Gauri Shotra:

Sarvasankat Hantri Twamhi Dhan Aishwarya Pradayanim,
Gyanada Chaturvedmayi Mahagauri Pranamabhyaham.

Shukh Shantidatri Dhan Dhanya Pradayinim,
Damruvadaya Priya Adaya Mahagauri Pranamabhyaham.

Trailokyamangal Twamhi Taaptrai Harinim,
Vadada Chaitanyamayi Mahagauri Pranamabhyaham.

Mata Maha Gauri Kawach:

Aunkarha Patu Shirsha Maa, Hrim Beejam Maa, Hridaye,
Klim Beejam Sadapatu Nabho Gruho Cha Padayo.




Lalatam Karno Hum Beejam Patu Mahagauri Maa Netram Dhano,
Kapot Chibuko Phat Patu Swaha Maa Sarva Vadano.
